Devils Whip Bremen, Head to Rochelle

November 24, 2007

On a cold west Georgia night, Lincoln County wore down 6-A champ Bremen for a 19-0 fourth quarter lead before giving up a late TD. The Blue Devils fall 19-7 with our Red Devils playing Wilcox County in the quarterfinals.

The first half was a classic defensive struggle, with the two teams together not gaining a hundred yards.

Lincoln County fumbled on the second half kickoff, but the Devil Defense rose to the occasion and stopped the home team at the LC 47. Our Devils then picked up two first downs before coming up 2 feet short of a first down at midfield.

After a Bremen punt, Lincoln had first down at its 47. A. G. Middlebrooks got loose on the right side and outraced 3 defenders to the endzone. Vance Tarver's PAT kick with 4:29 left in the third put our Devils ahead 7-0.

Alex Ellis intercepted a Bremen pass at the LC 24 to end their next drive. Jamareon Green and Jafabian Green each gained 18 yards. Middlebrooks rushed for 16 to the Bremen 25. After 3 short runs, Jamareon gained 11 to the 4. He then scored from there with 10:31 left in the game.

Bremen, apparently in desperation, went for the first down when facing a 4th-&-11 at its own 32 with about 9 minutes left. The pass attempt fell incomplete, and our Devils started from the 32. Middlebrooks gained 20 to the 12. Jamareoun did the honors from there with 8:36 left in the game.

Our Devils recovered a fumble on the following kickoff, but were unable to capitalize on the miscue. Bremen started from their 31 and drove the field on 13 plays. They barely made a first down at the 10 before scoring from the 4 with 2:56 left. The PAT kick cut the Lincoln lead to 12 points.

The Blue Devils successfully executed an onside kick, and were quickly threatening again. With a first down at the LC 37, their pass attempt was intercepted by Carlous Hearst at the LC 28 and returned 42 yards to the Bremen 30. Three good runs by the Greens put the ball at the 5. After a penalty, our Devils took a knee and the game ended 19-7.
