Class A Finals: Savannah Christian vs Wilcox County

Savannah Christian whipped Darlington 24-10 and Wilcox County edged Clinch County 20-14 to earn berths in the Class A finals next Saturday in the Georgia Dome.

In Rome, Savannah Christian took an early 7-0 lead, but Darlington came back to lead 10-7 after a Raider fumble. The Raiders tied the scored just before the half. Two second half touchdowns put the visiting team from Savannah into the Class A finals for the first time. This will be the first time in nearly 40 years that a Savannah school plays in the GHSA football finals.[Game story]

In Homerville, the game was a nail-biter as the two teams swapped the lead back and forth. Wilcox County stopped Clinch County at the Patriot 20 and then scored on an 80-yard pass with 3:17 left in the game. The two-point conversion was good for a 20-12 lead. Clinch running back was tackled on the Wilcox 5 as time ran out to end Clinch County's chances at another state finals. Wilcox County will play Savannah Christian at 1:00 next Saturday in the Georgia Dome for the Class A title.
