Devils Host 7-A Title Game Friday

November 03, 2010

Wilkinson County's Warriors will invade Buddy Bufford Field Friday night to battle our Red Devils for the 2010 Region 7-A football title. Kickoff is slated for 7:30, with Senior Night festivities before the game.

This game looks to be the toughest challenge for the Devils since their opening week visit to Abbeville (now 9-1). Wilkinson is 7-2, but those two losses were by a total of 3 points. The Warriors lost to Johnson County 28-27. Johnson is 9-0 and has had only one close game since.

The Warriors are led by Alvin Dupree. As a tight end last week in a 35-20 victory over Warren County, he had 115 yards receiving and a touchdown. As a defensive end, he made eight tackles, three for losses. The 6'5", 220-pound Dupree is a Division I prospect that can run the 40 in 4.65 seconds with a vertical jump of 3 feet. Georgia Tech and Auburn have made offers to the big guy who wears #85.

The Red Devils have to be wary of a let-down after several big wins in recent weeks. The starters might also be a bit rusty after seeing very limited playing time in last week's rout of once-Top-10-ranked Aquinas.

Both teams will be at home in the first round of the playoffs next week. The winner will get a slightly weaker opponent, #4 from Region 5-A, while the loser hosts the #3 team from that region.

Please get to BBF early and support our Devils in this tough game!!
