UPDATED -- The Vidalia Indians will come to Buddy Bufford Field this Friday night for a pre-season scrimmage against our Red Devils.
The Indians are coached by Lee Chomskis, a former Red Devil assistant who spent much time in Lincolnton growing up with his Pitts family kin. He is the nephew of Georgia prep coaching legend Dan Pitts. Lee left the LC staff in 2007 to head the Indian program, and is 30-23 going into his 6th season.
Vidalia and our Red Devils have met only once. The two schools met in the Sweet Onion City in the 1983 Class AA quarterfinals. Our Devils won 20-7.
Lincoln County opens its regular season August 31 in McCormick.
In other scrimmages, this Friday Washington-Wilkes visits Aquinas and Thomson goes to Evans.
The GHSF Daily newsletter has named this scrimmage as one of the 10 most intriguing this week:
"*Vidalia at Lincoln County: Vidalia (6-4 in 2011) was 5-0 last season, but the wheels fell off when star RB Juan Foster was lost to an injury. He ran for 1,480 yards as a sophomore. He's back. Lincoln County (12-1) is perhaps the favorite to win the new public school title in Class A. The only times these schools have met in a real game was a 1983 quarterfinal. Lincoln won."
