Renewing a rivalry that started 90 years ago, Lincoln County will open its season this Friday night against the McCormick Chiefs. Kickoff is 7:30.
The McCormick field is south of McCormick on SC 28, behind the schools. The field can be accessed via the road to the right of the schools.
Chief fullback Allyn Williams led McCormick to a 42-27 win over Fox Creek last Friday. He rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns to win the Greenwood Index-Journal's player of the week award. Index-Journal: Setting the Tone
McCormick's triple-option offense is expected to put a lot of points on the board this season. McCormick coach Brian Neal is now in his second year with the Chiefs. He spent one year at Ninety Six, where he succeeded Red Devil assistant Mike Doolittle as the head coach. He also coached at Long Cane Academy.
Our Red Devils enter the game as the #1 team in the AJC and AP polls, which of course means nothing. What is important is that the Devils have a new quarterback and lots of inexperience on the offensive and defensive lines. The Devils also lost several key ball-handlers. But LC returns several good players and have the opportunity for another good season.
