Hero: Thomas Bunch

August 27, 2002

Player, assistant coach, head coach, athletic director. Thomas Bunch served Lincoln County in many different ways during his lifetime.

He was known as "Zero" during his playing days, then returned to Lincolnton with Buddy Bufford in the 1950's to build a powerhouse football program that would win 3 state titles in four year, with Coach Bunch as the head coach for the last two.

After turning the head coach position over to a young coach named Larry Campbell in 1972, Coach Bunch continued leading the LCHS athletics program as Director and school counselor for many years. He was recently honored by the community as Grand Marshall for the 2001 Christmas Parade.
