Devils Renew Oldest Rivalry with Chiefs
2002-09-03

This Friday, the McCormick Chiefs will retrace the path (more-or-less) that their predecessors first took in 1922 when they travel west on the modern day US 378 to Lincolnton to take on the Red Devils.

McCormick won its season opener 19-6 over Buford (the South Carolina school, not the one that won Georgia Class A last year). But the Chiefs, like the Devils, were shutout last week; in their case, it was 30-0 by the Blue Flashes from Calhoun Falls.

For the second straight week the Devils will face a new coach. This week it is Charlie Combs, an assistant with McCormick last year and the head coach of Williston-Elko's Blue Devils in 2000.

Jonta Siebert, a 230-pound senior, is back to lead the Chiefs' running game. He averaged over 115 yards a game last year as the Chief's finished at 5-6 and lost in the first round of the playoffs.
