Devils Selected to All-State, All-Area Teams

December 25, 2002

Seniors Terrance Norman and Gerald Goldman have been named to the Associated Press Class A All-State Honorable Mention list.

Goldman was named to the Second Team Georgia All-Area list by The Augusta Chronicle. Norman, Terrell Elam, and Octavius Andrews were cited in the Chronicle's Honorable Mention list.

In other post-season news, Lincoln County finished tied for seventh in the final AP Class A poll. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution put the Devils at 8th.

A comment from Tradition: While I can see some logic to placing the Devils behind Commerce and Twiggs County, who they lost to, I join several Clinch County fans in their belief that Lincoln County, at the end of the season, was playing well enough to be named the second best team in Class A. Others argue that Dooly County must be put at #2 because they made the finals; the bracket system is designed to ensure that the best team wins the tournament -- it does not guarantee that the best two teams play in the finals. The two best teams can meet in the quarterfinals, semifinals, or finals, depending on the seedings. I certainly believe that the two best teams met in the quarterfinal game in Homeville this year. Our Red Devils played Clinch County 22 points closer than any other Class A team, leading at the half and into the fourth quarter.

But even the nay-sayers are predicting a bright future for the Devils returning for the 2003 season, as many are picking Lincoln County to be in the top two or three come next August.
