Russell Gibson played for the Devils and overcame an accident to become a die-hard fan.
Faith Hill provides this nomination of "her hero": As I was sitting here emailing you about Russell being my hero, it hit me that he has not been nominated to the Hall of Heroes. I am officially doing that now.
Friday nights at Buddy Bufford Field are not complete without watching for a van coming in the lower gate delivering one of our most dedicated fans, Russell Gibson. Russell played for the Lincoln County Red Devils in the early 1980's. Less than a year after graduation, he was injured in an automobile accident that left him paralyzed (mobility wise, that is). Russell has never let his "disability" get in the way of accomplishing his goals. He went on to graduate from Augusta Technical College and runs his own printing shop. Anytime you strike up a conversation with him, it ultimately ends up being about the "Red Devils". He is truly a fan! Because of Russell's unique smile and unwavering spirit, those he meets always leave with a warmed heart.
He is my hero! I love you, Russell.
