Devils Pound Irish 55-0

September 30, 2006

Lincoln County got its season back on track Friday night with a 55-0 shellacking of the Aquinas Fighting Irish in Augusta.

The Red Devils' varied offensive attack saw 12 different backs carry the ball. Substitutions were plentiful throughout the game, with the Devil Junior Varsity playing the clock-running fourth quarter.

The win opened the Region 7-A schedule for both schools. The Devils, along with Hancock Central and Twiggs County, are now atop the region standings.

Darell Norman scored the first two LC touchdowns on 5 and 11 yard runs. The second TD was setup by a Tyler Beale interception at the Irish 10. Barden grabbed a 38-yard bomb from Austin Goldman late in the second quarter, with Beale's PAT pass reception from Barden giving the Devils a 21-0 halftime lead.

Big Red exploded for 28 points in the third quarter, beginning with a 65-yard pass reception for touchdown when Barden found Rontae Norman behind the Aquinas defense to open the half. Just over a minute later, Logan Rhodes returned an Irish fumble 10 yards for a touchdown. Ricardo Norman then burst through the line for 44 yards and a TD.

Franklin Jones also got in the scoring action with a 25-yard run late in the third. Jarren Brown added the final points midway the fourth on a 4-yard run.

The Devils totalled 432 yards offense on 18 first downs. Barden completed 3 of 5 for 90 yards, and also caught two passes for 76 yards.

Lincoln County travels to Monticello next Friday.
