Lincoln County scored on 3 long plays enroute to a 42-0 blowout of the Monticello Hurricanes Friday in the Rose Bowl.
On a beautiful fall evening in middle Georgia, our Red Devils took a 7-0 lead midway the first quarter when Ricardo Norman went left, paused to setup his blocking, and the shot 10 yards into the endzone. The touchdown was setup by Rontae Norman rushing for 11 yards on a double reverse when the Devils faced 4th-&-3 at the Monticello 32.
Rontae was able to show his running skill again when Monticello punted to end their next possession. Working behind great blocks, he returned the punt 76 yards to pay-dirt. After another Hurricane punt, Brandon Barden rushed in from 22 yards out on the first play of the second quarter.
After an exchange of possessions, Monticello found itself on the Devil 20 after a miscue on 4th down. One second down, Ronell Ferguson recovered a Hurricane fumble at the 14. Barden kept the ball and went right, then rumbled downfield for 86 yards and the fourth TD.
In the third quarter, the Devils added to their 28-0 halftime lead when Darell Norman slipped through the line and outran the defense 79 yards to the endzone. Rontae Norman scored the final touchdown on a 5-yard run with 1:53 left in the third. The fourth quarter was played under "mercy" rules with the clock running. Big Red almost scored on the final play of the game when DeChane Willis intercepted a Monticello pass at the 15 and returned the ball to the Hurricane 10 before being knocked out of bounds.
Vance Tarver was perfect on all 6 extra point kicks.
Lincoln County hosts Hancock Central next Friday in a key Region 7-A matchup.
