Due to lightning, Lincoln County's game in Washington has been postponed until 2:00 Saturday.
The officials tried to wait out the storm, which kept lightning flashing from the planned kickoff of 7:30 until the game was called about 8:40.
Ticket stubs were handed out as fans left the stadium. Those will be good for Saturday's game.
This is only the second time in the last 30 years that a Lincoln County game was postponed after the players arrived at the field. A 1995 game against Warren County in Lincolnton was postponed one day due to tornados in the area. A 2002 game in Commerce was delayed a week when a hurricane swamped Georgia. A 2004 game, also in Commerce, was delayed one day due to hurricane-aftermath concerns.
The 2001 game against the Tigers in Washington was delayed one week due to the 9/11 terrorist attack.
This will be the first time in at least 30 years that our Devils have played outside in a game starting before 5 PM.
