JV Ends Season Perfectly

October 22, 2008

The Junior Devils ended their 2008 season with a perfect 6-0 record with a 29-14 win over Evans in a very intense game.

The young Evans Knights received the ball first but the Devils halted their drive. Taking the offense for the first time, the Devils fumbled with Evans recovering on the LC 32. The Devil D held at the 17.

After a 3-and-out series, Garrett Mohr boomed a punt to the Knights 31-yard line. The Knights drove the ball and scored but their 2-point conversion failed and left Evans with a 6-0 lead in the second quarter.

On the next possession the Devils drove the ball down the field with hard running by Darrien Gladmon and Allen Crite and a key pass on 3rd down for Mohr to Rusty Scott to keep the drive alive. Crite scored with a hard 12-yard run up the middle. The try-for-two failed leavingthe contest knotted at 6-all, which held up through the half.

The Devils struggled on the opening drive going 3 and out, but the D held strong again. On the Devils' next drive the drive was started by Denzel Gunby picking up 14 yards on a reverse. Then Mohr found Gladmon on a 35-yard bomb. The Devils went for it on 4th-and-8 on their 26-yard line. Mohr hit Tyler Banks for the touchdown in the corner of the endzone. The 2-point conversion was good and our youngsters led 14-6.

On the Devils next offensive series Crite broke a 42-yard run on the opening play of the drive. Trey Brown finished it off with a 9-yard run for the score. The 2-point effort was good for a 22-6 lead.

The Devil D continued to hold the Knights in check. On the next series Mohr's pass was tipped by an Evans defender and caught by Scott for a 37-yard touchdown. Banks kicked the PAT to give the Devils a 29-6 lead late in the 4th quarter. Evans scored late in the game on our reserve players to end the game with the Devils ahead 29-14.

According to our sources, this season was the first perfect season for the Junior Varsity in 16 years.

JV Head Coach Shawn Davis commented after the win, "I would like to thank the parents who helped feed the team on away games and at the end of the season. Everything you did for us was greatly appreciated by the coaches and players. Without the support of the great fans of Lincoln County, we could not have been as successful. Thank you very much and we hope to continue the success in the future."

Coach Davis was assisted by Kenn Barnett and Billy Kirby.
