McGahee Scored Thrice in Fourth to Secure Win Over Chiefs

BUDDY BUFFORD FIELD, LINCOLNTON -- Tavious McGahee scored three times in less than four minutes in the fourth quarter to secure our Red Devils' win over McCormick. Lincoln County moves to 2-0 after the 28-6 win.

McGahee and the Devil Defense setup the three scores by forcing two punts from the McCormick endzone and recovering a fumble at the Chief 29. McGahee first scored with 10:07 left in the game on a 10-yard run after a very short punt. The Chiefs fumbled on their next possession with Devil QB Franklin Sherman passing to McGahee for 29 yards and the next TD with 9:39 left.

After another shot punt, McGahee rushed for the TD from the 17 with 6:16 remaining in the game. Walker Smith continued his perfect ways on PATs, making 4 out of 4.

A. G. Middlebrooks put the Devils ahead in the second quarter on a 3-yard run. McCormick drove back, scoring on a quarterback sneak on 4th-&-1. The pass attempt for 2 fell incomplete.

Penalties and fumbles highlighted the game, along with the Chiefs having several players with cramps.

Middlebrooks led the ground attack with 90 yards on 15 carries, followed by McGahee with 9 runs for 68 yards.

Sherman completed 6 of 16 pass attempts for 49 yards. Garrett Mohr completed 3 of 6 for 19 yards, and had another great night of punting.

McGahee led the receiving corps with 3 grabs for 39 yards. Six other Red Devils had catches during the game.
