Undefeated Teams Highlight Wet Week 5 Schedule

September 13, 2004

Week 5 in Georgia High School Football in 2004 may be dampened by Ivan The Terrible, but let's take a spin around the Peach State and see what other trouble we can find.

When is the last time that Bowdon, Commerce, and Miller County were all out of the Class A Top 10 at the same time? That's the situation right now, but a Commerce win our over Devils this week could change that.

We're still trying to believe two big upsets last week: Buford and Thomson losing. Thomson disappeared from the AAA Top 10, and Buford dropped to #4 in AA behind #1 Charlton County.

Class AAA Carrollton visits Bowdon in a big Carroll County rivalry. If the Red Devils hand the Trojans their first loss, that Top 10 list should change.

The larger Class A regions are now into region play. Wilkinson County may be able to play with Twiggs County for a few minutes, but it won't last as the Cobras sting the Warriors. ECI and McIntosh County Academy tangle in 3-A.

Bremen of 6-A travels to Fairburn to play Landmark Christian in 5-A. The Blue Devils should remain undefeated this week, and probably until late October when they have travel to Bowdon and Trion in back-to-back games.

Aquinas should go 4-0 against Our Lady of Mercy, also being played in Fairburn. Again I must ask this: if Aquinas is 5-0 when they visit Lincolnton in two weeks, will the Irish be the favorite? The Irish play Glascock next week.

Jefferson could get a bit of a test at Oglethorpe County. Trion continues its far-reaching schedule when the upstart Social Circle Redskins visit northwest Georgia. Both teams are 2-2, with Trion favored to win.

Washington-Wilkes, now 1-2-1, visits Eatonton to play Putnam County from 7-AA. The War Eagles are 2-1, and this could be a good game between former AA rivals.

And oh, by the way, Athens Academy is taking this week off to prepare for their visitors next week: the Lincoln County Red Devils. #1 Hawkinsville is also off this week.
