Junior Devils Roll to 4-0 Mark - At Home Thursday

October 08, 2006

The Lincoln County Junior Varsity continued their winning ways this past Thursday at Greenbrier by winning 34-6 and improving their season record to a perfect 4-0.

The defense continued to play extremely well, putting the offense in good field position all day and scoring the first touchdown of the game.

Strong safety A. G. Middlebrooks rushed the Greenbrier QB on a third down pass and forced a fumble. Marquis Parks recovered for Devils' first TD of the day. The Devils led 7-0 after Vance Tarver's PAT kick.

The Devil Defense tightened up again on the Wolfpack's next possession. The secondary had many chances to pick off passes as Greenbrier went to the air on a few plays. "Our defensive front man handled their offensive line which forced Greenbrier to use pass plays to move the ball with minimal success. The secondary was tested today and that will just make our team better in the future," according to JV head coach Kevin Blizzard.

The second quarter saw plenty of offensive action as the Junior Devils marched down the field with strong runs from Alex Ellis and Josh Sims. Jarren Brown also ran tough to set up LC's second TD of the day. Middlebrooks scored on a sweep play for a two-touchdown lead.

The LC defense continued to stand its ground up front with Parks and Clifton Timpson leading the way. The secondary, consisting of Jatoyus Jones, Ellis, Brown, Middlebrooks and Jafabian Green, played good pass defense to force the home team to punt a few more times in the second quarter.

The 3rd offensive TD for the Devils was thrown by QB Bo Reed to tight end Josh Hollimon. The next TD by the Devils offense was a pass from Ellis to Hollimon. The PAT kick was blocked, leaving the Devils with a 27-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw plenty of action from the second unit offense and second unit defense. The bench was emptied and everyone got playing time. "We substituted second and 3rd string players on offense, defense and special teams to get all players on the team some action," according to Coach Blizzard.

The final TD of the day came from the second unit offense on a sweep play by Middlebrooks on a long run. The Devils led 34-0 after the extra point kick by Ashton Brantley. The second and third units continued to play well but the Greenbrier offense scored late in the game for the final 34-6 score.

The Devils play a home game this Thursday at 5:30 against Elbert County. Get out and support the undefeated Junior Red Devils!
